Criminal (In)Justice, Mental Health, and Life After Prison

Description: This panel will examine the truth about incarceration from people who have experienced it. Speakers will include, Wallace Kirby, a survivor of Supermax solitary confinement and nearly 2 decades of federal incarceration and current D.C. community organizer around issues related to conditions of confinement and returning citizens with disabilities. Glen Field is a survivor of incarceration in multiple facilities and current advocate for incarcerated D.C. residents who currently are held in federal prisons across the nation. Finally, Louis Sawyer Jr. is a survivor of 25 years of incarceration and current advocate who focuses on creating meaningful re-entry and transition plans, especially for re-entrants with serious and persistent mental health concerns.
