||The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law, together with the
AU Kay Spiritual Life Center, invite you to join us in conversation with Ms. Blanca Velázquez, recipient of the 2013 Óscar Romero Award.
This prestigious award is given by the Rothko Chapel to “unsung heroes” who have made extraordinary contributions to human rights. The award is named after Archbishop Óscar Romero, a human rights defender from El Salvador who was assassinated on March 24, 1980 for his opposition to violence and oppression of the poor in his country.
Ms. Velázquez, this year’s recipient, is a labor rights activist and human rights defenderr from Mexico. She is the Director and Co-Funder of the Centro de Apoyo al Trabajador (Center for Worker Support, CAT), an organization dedicated to promoting the rights of workers in Puebla’s garment and auto parts industries.
Please join us in honoring Ms. Velázquez with a reception to follow in the Dean’s Suite from 5:00pm-6:00pm.
