Roe v. Wade and the New Jane Crow: Reproductive Rights in the Age of Mass Incarceration

Thursday, March 7, 2013
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
American University Washington College of Law
4801 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

Lynn Paltrow, J.D., Founder and Executive Director of National Advocates for Pregnant Women ("NAPW") will discuss how controversial efforts to establish separate legal personhood for fertilized eggs, embryos and fetuses may provide the basis for the arrests and detentions of (and forced interventions on) pregnant women. Join us for an exploration how race, gender, poverty, the war on drugs, and the rise of mass incarceration intersect in the struggle over women’s health and human rights in the United States.
