The Freedom Riders and the Progression to a Post Racial America

Wednesday, March 2, 2011
06:30 PM - 09:30 PM
American University Washington College of Law, Room 603
4801 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

The program will begin with a panel led by U.S. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. and Executive Director of the ACLU National Capital Area, Johnny Barnes.

This will be followed by a screening of the film "Freedom Riders", a powerful, harrowing and inspirational documentary that chronicles the journey of more than 400 black and white Americans as they journeyed together on buses through the Deep South, and conducted non-violent demonstrations against Jim Crow laws. The program endeavors to enlighten students on the racial issues of the past and ways in which we can all shape a more cohesive America.
