The WCL Externship Fair
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The annual Externship Fair provides an opportunity for students to meet with a wide variety of employers offering externships, for information-gathering, networking, and informal interviewing. The Externship Program places hundreds of students each year in unpaid externships with government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, courts and law firms engaged in pro bono work. Students receive academic credit for performing substantive legal work under the supervision of an attorney, while the organizations benefit from the services of externs who commit to working for the semester. All students who participate in the Externship Program must enroll in a related seminar and are closely supervised by law school faculty, who oversee their work during the summer, fall, or spring semesters. Last year, over 300 students and over 160 attorneys representing more than 130 employers participated in the Externship Fair, and many organizations were able to complete their summer recruitment in this relaxed environment. Past participants include numerous divisions of the U.S. Department of Justice and other government agencies, DC, Virginia and Maryland Public Defender Services, and public interest organizations such as the ACLU and the Legal Aid Society.
The Externship Program will host a reception immediately following the Fair to thank employers for participating. Employers, faculty and senior staff are invited.
