Presentation by Justice Albie Sachs, South Africa Constitutional Court, on Enforcement of Social and Economic Rights
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Justice Sachs will be talking about the cases decided by the SA Constitutional Court that deal with these rights. The SA court is considered the leading court in the world on this issue. Prior to being appointed to the Constitutional Court in 1994, Justice Sachs was an ANC activist during the anti-apartheid struggle serving as a member of its Constitutional Committee and National Executive. While in exile, he was blown up by a bomb placed in his car in Maputo by South African security agents, losing an arm and the sight of an eye. He is an author of many books, and played an active role in the development of the Constitutional Court building and its art collection on the site of the Old Fort Prison in Johannesburg.
