Beijing + 10: A Look at the Beijing Platform Ten Years Down the Road

Speakers will discuss how far nations around the world have come in implementing the Beijing Platform, the discriminatory legislation that persists in many countries, and ways in which the Platform can be more effectively implemented.

Distinguished guest speaker The Honorable Linda Tarr-Whelan will discuss her involvement in the Fourth World Conference on Women, her role in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the achievements and setbacks to full implementation of the Platform, and strategies for achieving future implementation.

She was appointed as Ambassador by President Clinton and confirmed by the Senate in 1997. She was the US Representative to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (1996-2001), on the US Delegation to the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995 and deputy chair for the Special Session of the UN General Assembly, "Women 2000" for the US. From 2000-2002 she served as a member of the President's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACT-PN).
