2000 v. 2004: A Comparative Look at the 2000 and 2004 Election Cycles

A panel discussion on the similarities and differences
between the 2000 and 2004 election cycles.

Political commentators and analysts speculate on how the 2000 election cycle impacted Democratic strategy in 2004. Come hear Democratic insiders discuss both election cycles from their first-hand experiences. Topics will include the development and management of the Democrats' national election protection program in 2004 and the impact of new campaign finance laws on the 2004 election.

The panel discussion will be from 4:00 - 5:30, including a Q&A session. The panel will be followed by a reception.

Confirmed Panelists:

Mr. Jody Trapasso, Partner, Patton Boggs LLP, who helped to develop and manage a nationwide voter protection operation for the DNC during the 2004 cycle and played a leading role in Vice President Gore's campaign in 2000. Mr. Trapasso will discuss the Democrats' national election protection program, how it differed in 2004 from 2000, and the impact the 2000 experience had on the 2004 strategy.

Mr. Joseph Sandler, Partner, Sandler, Reiff & Young, PC, who served as General Counsel to the DNC from 1993 - 1998 and continues to serve as outside general counsel through his firm. Mr. Sandler will discuss developments in campaign finance law, including how the McCain-Feingold Act has changed the political financial landscape.
