2002 Founders' Celebration Events
The 2001-2002 William H. Karchmer "We the Students" Awards Ceremony and Celebration
April 9, 2002
The Marshall-Brennan Fellowship Program hosted its third annual William H. Karchmer "We the Students" Awards Ceremony and Celebration at American University Washington College of Law. The celebration recognized the high school students who participated in the program and the winners of the moot court, essay, poetry and creative arts competitions. In the past we have been joined by Mrs. Thurgood Marshall, Mayor Anthony Williams, former Judge Kenneth Starr, Judge Gerald Bruce Lee, D.C. Council member Kevin Chavous, Montgomery County Council member Michael Subin, WAMU's Mark Plotkin, Mary Beth Tinker and other luminaries and program supporters. A generous endowment from the family of William H. Karchmer allows the program to award cash prizes and trophies to the winners in each category. This year, we also awarded the second Annual Mary Beth Tinker Award to the person who has most courageously championed the rights of America's high school students.
