Gender and Development: Successful Strategies for Development and Improving Women's Lives
March 19, 2002
The Women and International Law Program hosted a dinner discussion to explore strategies for successful development programs that improve communities and women's lives. This event brought together representatives of development institutions, gender experts and women's rights advocates to share their knowledge and experiences about the role of women in development and successful strategies that build on and promote women's active participation in the development process. Some development programs focus specifically on women's rights issues. Others attempt to streamline gender issues throughout the development process. This dinner offered those working on women and development issues an opportunity to discuss different development strategies as they relate to women, analyze the opportunities and obstacles presented by these strategies, and develop suggestions for the future.
