AUWCL offers an unlimited number of slots in the Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) with a maximum institutional contribution of up to the cost of tuition and fees during the fall and spring semesters per recipient. The AUWCL contribution will be applied in conjunction with the Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition and matching Yellow Ribbon benefits. Receipt of Yellow Ribbon with Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition benefits precludes the payment of other institutional grants/scholarships, including merit and need-based awards.
AUWCL has voluntarily entered into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs that provides matching funds to eligible students. Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding. You may be eligible if:
You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;
You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;
You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Per federal regulations, eligible recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis (please note: AUWCL has an unlimited number of slots). Current Yellow Ribbon Program recipients need not reapply and must continue to meet federal and institutional eligibility requirements.

Veteran benefits are processed and certified through the Veterans Center on American University’s main campus. The AUWCL Office of Financial Aid is able to help answer questions you may have regarding your benefits and possible financial aid implications. Only the certifying officials on main campus can discuss benefit eligibility. Institutional financial aid in combination with tuition only assistance cannot exceed AUWCL tuition.
A certification form must be completed and submitted through main campus before each semester you plan on using VA Education Benefits.
