July & August Deadlines

The outside scholarships listed below are intended for students pursuing legal studies; however, they are not affiliated with American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). Although the information below is reviewed quarterly for accuracy, it is subject to change at any time by the scholarship organization(s). All outside scholarships received by AUWCL students must be reported to the AUWCL Financial Aid Office and are subject to the cost of attendance guidelines.

 

Don H. Liu Scholars Program
The Don H. Liu Scholars Program, Inc. (the “Program”) was founded in 2014 by two past presidents of the Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”), Jean Lee and Mike Huang. The Program seeks to identify, cultivate and inspire future Asian American leaders within the legal profession in order to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today – the barrier to advancement.

Akin Gump/ Robert Strauss Diversity Scholarship
The scholarship provides $25,000 to five outstanding second year students at U.S. law schools to offset expenses for their third year of law school. The scholarships will be awarded to students who evidence a commitment to diversity in the legal profession, who demonstrate excellence and who can bring diverse viewpoints and experiences to the firm. In addition to the financial award, the scholarships include mentoring from firm lawyers and a paid second-year summer associate position in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, D.C.

Mark T. Banner Scholarship
The recipient of the Mark T. Banner Scholarship will receive $10,000 payable for the fall semester of his or her second or third year of law school. Considerations and statement include (a) how ethics, civility and professionalism have been a focus of the candidate; (b) how diversity has impacted the candidate; and (c) the candidate's commitment to the pursuit of a career in IP law.
