Description
This is a two-credit graded course. It is taken concurrently with a field placement in a non-profit or governmental organization, or a private law firm handling pro bono matters exclusively. This seminar is taught by career federal prosecutors from the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and is designed for students who are either interested in litigation or trial work or those who are currently working at a criminal litigation placement, i.e. U.S. Attorney’s Offices, state or local prosecutor’s offices, public defender’s offices or other criminal defense firms, or judicial placements. Whether representing the government or individual clients, trial lawyers face the unique challenges of balancing expectations of our clients, supervising lawyers, opposing counsel, and the court. In addition to traditional seminar topics such as networking and interviewing, we will explore those unique challenges and the ethical implications that accompany practicing criminal law by drawing on externship experiences. .*** Students working with US DOJ Civil Rights Division, Criminal Section may not enroll due to potential conflicts
