Civil Procedure is a pre-requisite and Evidence is a pre-or co-requisite. Meets on 7/10 - 7/11 6:00pm - 9:30pm, 7/17-7/20 6:00pm - 9:30pm and 7/22 9:00am-4:00pm. Students may earn academic credit for up to two credits per week in the summer semester (excluding full semester courses). This course counts toward the two credit per week limit. Description
Participants learn how to prepare and conduct direct and cross-examinations, deliver effective opening statements and closing arguments, make timely objections, and lay the proper foundation to admit evidence during the course of a trial. The course is conducted in a learning-by-doing format. This course is an intensive course that is completed over two weeks and requires students to complete a substantial amount of trial preparation outside of class. Students will receive feedback on all in-class performances and will complete self-assessments on their in-class performances through video review. The course concludes with a full mock trial before a sitting judge and citizen jurors. Assessment: Preparation for and presentation of in-class trial simulations. Self-assessment through video review. Final exam performance during full trial before a sitting judge and citizen jurors.
