Description
This course will cover the essential elements of U.S. laws on corruption, including bribery, fraud, money laundering, and campaign finance, and how they are enforced by U.S. law enforcement agencies. The course will also examine government accountability mechanisms, that is, those laws, regulations and institutions specifically designed to promote transparency and deter corrupt acts before they occur. It will also address how corporations doing business in the United States must formulate and effectively implement internal controls, oversight mechanisms and training programs in order to be in compliance with this array of complex laws and regulations. The course is designed for practitioners advising clients, individual or corporate, who are doing or want to do business in the United States, and for those in government who want to study American anti-corruption laws and institutions as examples to be adapted to the specific contexts of their own countries.
