Description

This course satisfies the Health Care Compliance Certificate. This is a two-credit experiential course with live class time compressed (i.e., front-loaded) in the first half of the semester. The first live class will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and the last live class will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. During live class time, students will focus on simulations, mock client hypotheticals and oral and written communication/presentation skills. A central aspect of this course will be to prepare for and participate in the 12th Annual Health Law Regulatory & Compliance Competition hosted by the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law (competition will be on February 11, 2023 in-person). After the competition is over, students will be required to write a short paper (approximately 10 pages) on any health law topic, in lieu of a final exam. TO APPLY: students must contact Professor Scielzo at scielzo@wcl.american.edu with a list of all health law/food and drug law related courses already completed or concurrently enrolled in Spring 2023. Health Care Fraud and Abuse is a required prerequisite. Deadline to apply is end of day Sunday, October 30, 2022, and Professor Scielzo will review them on a rolling basis.
