Description

This course will introduce students to the law and practice of financial crimes compliance, focusing on fraud, anti-bribery and corruption, criminal antitrust, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, and economic sanctions. Through mini-lectures, simulation exercises (e.g., drafting compliance policies, preparing risk assessments, questioning executives to identify possible compliance failures, and reporting potential wrongdoing to law enforcement and regulators), and oral and written feedback, students gain exposure to key skill sets that lawyers in corporate-compliance roles routinely use. This course is open to LLM students and to JD students who have taken international law and basic or related criminal law courses, or who have had work experience directly related to one or more of the financial-crimes areas that this course covers. Completion of the Fall Anti-Corruption Law course is highly recommended but not required.
