Description

This is a one-credit pass/fail seminar. It is taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, court office, government organization, or a private law firm doing pro bono work. The field placement itself is also subject to a pass/fail review, but the credit hours allocated for the field placements vary with the number of hours the students are working. In this seminar, we will explore the meaning of being a lawyer and a member of the legal profession. We will think about the variety of roles lawyers may have and the wide range of experiences available to persons with law degrees – all through the prisms of your own externship experiences. We will explore the special ethical obligations of lawyers and the unique responsibilities that come with having specialized legal skills. Finally, we’ll talk about how to forge your own professional path and be professionally fulfilled while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The diversity of your field placements will guarantee us some healthy and informative discussions!
