Description

This (introductory) Human Rights Law course offers you a broad, but certainly not superficial, look at the history, theory, and multi-jurisdictional practice of human rights law. You will be enabled (and enticed) to look beyond purely formal norms and procedural rules. You will be invited (and required) to actively participate in the discussion forum and the weekly online class. You will regularly interact with your peers and the professor. All this aims at fully immersing you in the real-life workings of human rights law on the global plane. After exploring the various 'systems' that seek to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms under international law, we will take a look at a select number of substantive rights, before turning to questions of transitional justice, or post-conflict realization of human rights.
