Description
Special victim cases - those criminal matters involving child abuse, domestic violence, and adult sexual assault - are among the most challenging cases for even the most seasoned criminal practitioners. This course is designed for students who have a basic knowledge of trial practice and a want to learn advanced trial skills in special victim prosecution and defense. The emphasis will be on the unique legal, evidentiary, ethical, medical, psychological, and behavioral principles that underlie these cases, with the ultimate goal of putting these principles to work in the courtroom. The in-class exercises are based on practical instruction, learning by doing, and feedback from faculty and fellow students.
