Description

Why are you here? Not just why this class, but why law school? Why law school in Washington, D.C.? Why did you choose your particular externship placement? Will your placement help you further your goals as a law student, a lawyer, or just maybe even as a person? Welcome to the Externship Seminar, “Reflecting on Modern Legal Practice and Experience.” This is a two-credit, graded course, which runs concurrently with your externship assignment. Our class will explore your reasons for practicing law; evaluate whether your goals and career choices are consistent with your purposes; and discuss how you can maximize your happiness as a lawyer. We will also look at various challenges and issues that arise in the practice of law. Finally, we will consider how to be fulfilled and maintain a healthy balance in your legal career. We will do this by reflecting on your externship experiences and incorporating what was learned into your future.
