Description
This course provides an in-depth review of the laws, regulations and policies governing the entry of foreign nationals into the United States for employment and business related purposes. Students will learn the fundamental principles and defining concepts of the various temporary and permanent visa categories to learn to identify those most suitable for an individual employee. Students will also examine enforcement programs targeting employers and how to establish corporate compliance, as well as gain valuable insight into economic, social, and political considerations behind immigration law and policy for more effective representation of individuals and employers for business-related purposes. Finally, this course will include an in-depth analysis of the employment-based changes proposed and implemented pursuant to President Obama’s executive action on immigration. This course will have an exam that includes fact patterns requiring students to spot fundamental issues and analyze them critically. Additionally, attendance and exceptional class participation may result in a half-grade increase (i.e., from an A- to an A); deficient attendance and class participation may result in a half-grade decrease (i.e., from an A- to a B+). Student attendance is critical as the text does not cover all nuances presented in this course. There is no paper requirement so this course will not fulfill the upper level writing requirement.
