Description

This course will provide you with the techniques and skills to conduct legal research in both general topics and IP topics in a variety of settings, including law practice and clerking. Working with legal databases is an integral component of the course. We will cover the following IP topics: patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, licensing and international IP. You will learn how to develop a research plan for different types of questions and how to identify and use the best and most-cost effective research sources. The course also integrates time management and legal practice techniques into the research process. Your grade is based on the following: 1) Participation and attendance: 30%; 2) In-depth research problem (midterm): 30%; 3) Take-home final exam: 40%.
