Description
The primary purpose of this course is to explore issues in international human rights law (and, to a lesser extent, humanitarian law) as they relate to concepts of gender and gender identity. The course will examine the underlying assumptions, principles, and approaches of major human rights and humanitarian law instruments, with a particular emphasis on the roles of gender and culture in particular contexts, the role of tradition, culture, and/or traditional practices, and violence and protections as experienced and related to gender in times of conflict and stability. The course includes an intensive focus on legal research and writing on a topic related to international human rights law and gender of the student's choosing. There are no prerequisites.
