Description
LAW-700-002 An examination of the law surrounding criminal and other bases for immigration enforcement and removal of non-nationals from the United States; the evolution of federal agency enforcement strategies; and the public policy issues and controversies stemming from those laws and strategies. Topics include the immigration consequences of criminal arrests and convictions; statutory bases for relief from removal in deportation proceedings; immigration agency enforcement strategies, deportation priorities, and prosecutorial discretion; the law of employment verification and worksite enforcement; the evolution from worksite raids and worker arrests to an employer-based enforcement strategy; immigration trends in the states and Administration efforts to preserve federal administrative authority; and current issues and controversies in immigration enforcement. Final grades will be based on class participation (25%) and a paper (75%).
