Description

This course builds on the basic 2-credit course by adding a 1-credit practice component so that students can see the ethical rules in a practical context. Students will represent low-income clients in the District of Columbia and Maryland requiring assistance with the drafting of advance directives (living wills, durable powers of attorney for financial matters and for health care decision-making) and wills. Students will work in teams of two interviewing clients, conducting legal research and fact investigations, counseling clients, drafting documents, and helping clients execute those documents. Client work and supervision meetings will be undertaken on evenings and weekends to accommodate students who work full-time during the day.
