Textbooks and Other Materials

The textbook information on this page was provided by the instructor. Students should use this information when considering purchases from the AU Campus Store or other vendors. Students may check to determine if books are currently available for purchase online.

The primary text for this class is Energy, Economics and the Environment, 5d Ed. (2020). The textbook will be supplemented with additional/other resources as described in the syllabus or assigned in class.

Students are expected to read each required assignment before that day’s class and to be prepared to critically analyze the topics found therein during class discussions. Absolute mastery and recollection of facts is not necessary; rather, focus is on understanding, critical analysis, and thoughtful discussion.

Additional readings may be assigned during the course of the semester in order to reflect current events or for other reasons. Please check email and web postings regularly to ensure that you are aware of any additional assignments. Please note that there are readings for the first day of class.

The class will use an “on call” system so that students will know which course readings they will be called on for discussion purposes. Specifically, at the end of each class, students will be asked to volunteer to be on call for a particular reading or readings for the subsequent class, and to lead the discussion of that reading. Each student is expected to be on call for several readings during the course of the term.
