Description

Student attorneys in this one-semester clinic are assigned to local prosecutors’ offices in Maryland to prosecute individuals facing misdemeanor and felony charges in the District Court of Maryland, the first-tier trial court in Maryland. Student attorneys occasionally prosecute cases in the Circuit court, the upper-tier court. Student attorneys work individually with prosecutors in a co-counsel relationship to resolve cases by plea, trial or an alternative disposition. Typical charges include assault, drug possession, theft, disorderly conduct and some incarcerable traffic offenses. Supervision meetings and most of the case work takes place in prosecutor offices, while the seminar is held at WCL and taught by an adjunct professor. Students are currently placed in Montgomery and Ann Arundel counties. The clinic is offered only in the Fall semester.
