Instructor Permission Required. This course will meet for three weekends (Friday 2:00pm-8:00pm, Saturday 9:00am-1:00pm, Sunday 9:00am - 1:00pm) on the following weekends: Aug. 24-26; Sept. 7-9; Sep. 21-23. With extra work (and agreement from the professor, the paper for this course (if executed correctly) meets the Upper-Level Writing Requirement. **To get the graduation requirement marked as "met" the Office of the Registrar needs the signed ULWR confirmation form.

Description

Provides students with an opportunity to explore the legal intricacies of peace negotiations, post-conflict constitutions, and war crimes prosecutions. The particular cases examined by students are constantly updated to ensure they are dealing with contemporary conflicts. Specific issues covered include ceasefires; human rights; refugee law; state structure; power sharing; fiscal devolution; demobilization and reintegration; reconciliation; international tribunals; peacekeeping; and self-determination.

This course is taught as part of the Lawyering Peace program and is available only to students currently enrolled in that program.
