Description

The rise in use of social media and its respective technology has impacted the law in several areas. This course will teach students how the technology works and more importantly, how social media affects the law and legal profession. The course will analyze legal precedent as well as review current statutes, particularly how social media is creating new challenges that these statutes never comprehended upon their enactment many years ago. Students will gain an understanding of how to apply legal theories to social media and how best to use social media in their professional practice. Grade is based on a 12-15 page paper and various, short weekly problems throughout the semester. Students may elect to satisfy the Upper Level Writing Requirement by completing a 30 page paper or may write a 50 page paper by adding an additional credit for Independent Study (total of 3 credits).
