Description
This course will be a survey course addressing a number of issues in civil rights litigation. Generally, it will cover classifications and discrimination on the bases of race, sex, and other characteristics under the Equal Protection Clause. We will address equal employment caselaw under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, disability rights, and current litigation and developments in the area of voting rights. We will discuss the current state of LGBT issues and legal developments, and current caselaw addressing the abuse of authority by law enforcement personnel. If it turns out the class would like other issues addressed I am happy to accommodate that if possible. The syllabus I have attached is a bit out of date and I am updating it now. It was the syllabus I used in the fall of 2015. It should, however, give you a sense of the cases and material you will be reading and discussing in this course.
