IMPORTANT: This seminar is ONLY for students who have already taken a three credit seminar. REGISTRATION: There are two parts to registering for an externship: 1) Register on-line for the seminar as you would for any class. 2) Register for the field placement by going to the Externship Page www.wcl.american.edu/externship and submit a Request for Approval, which generates the necessary forms.

Description

This one-credit, pass-fail class is available to students who have already completed the three-credit supervised externship and must be taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, government agency, court, or private law firm (if the student is working exclusively pro bono matters). The focus of this course will be on the practice of law in the real world and how students can develop strategies to realize their career goals. The course will feature in-depth discussion of students' field placements, guest speakers with experience in a wide variety of legal positions, and thought-provoking readings. Student participation is an essential part of the course.
