This is a three-credit, graded seminar taken in conjunction with a field placement. This course explores the lawyer-client relationship, the meaning of being a lawyer, and the many facets of the legal profession. This externship is appropriate for all types of externships. We will also include topics especially related to public-interest lawyering, access to justice, and social justice. We will explore thinking consciously about how to make decisions and how to help clients make decisions. We will explore the skills necessary to confront the ethical concerns that accompany lawyering in a variety of practice settings. The course will be shaped around the particular placements of those enrolled to encourage reflection on their experiences.
