Description

Goals Statement: Intellectual Property Management borrows a page from the business school case study teaching method. A commitment to class participation is essential. There are no prerequisites for this 3-credit course, though the class will reflect that many students have taken one or more courses in Intellectual Property. Supplemental Readings will be provided for those students who would benefit from additional exposure to the Intellectual Property basics. The course encompasses a broad range of disciplines including copyright, trademark, trade secret, commercial and contract law. Principles of IP formalities, infringement, licensing and the use of copyrighted material on the Internet, etc. will be addressed in the context of the case problems being discussed. The course objectives skew towards an organizational IP audit, economic and transaction-based approach, rather than legislative and judicial analysis.
