Civil Rights and Remedies (LAW-933-001)
Gross
Notices
The first class will meet on Monday, August 29 at 6:30. p.m.
Description
The purpose of the course is to set out not only a survey of civil rights issues, but also study the many issues that arise when courts and parties try to develop remedies for violations of civil rights laws. As you will see, unlike many areas of litigation, remedies in civil rights cases affect not only the rights of parties to the case, but often affect the rights and opportunities of many people not parties to the case. The rights of these people must be considered when remedies are developed or, as we will see, litigation often ensues about the proposed remedies that is as difficult, or sometimes more difficult and contentious, than the litigation on the initial violation
