Textbooks and Other Materials

The textbook information on this page was provided by the instructor. Students should use this information when considering purchases from the AU Campus Store or other vendors. Students may check to determine if books are currently available for purchase online.

To provide the most up-to-date materials—including cases, agency memoranda, and articles—the assigned text for this course is a reader, as well as reading assignments which will be circulated by handout or electronically. The reader is principally composed of three monographs: a visa process monograph, a visa substance monograph, and a protective law monograph.

The reader also includes cases; other cases and materials may also be circulated periodically. Cases sometimes correspond with the visas being discussed that week; other times not, because often the point of including the case is to demonstrate an aspect of procedural practice. Thus, do not be surprised if the cases for a given week do not necessarily match the other material being covered that week. This is intentional.

An electronic copy of the reader will be made available, and print copies will also be available for purchase at the copy center. If complete copies are not available before the first class meeting, the reading assignment for the first week will be made available to students who are registered for the course. Once it is available, I urge you to download the electronic version of the reader for ease of reference during class. Additionally, computer-assisted searching the electronic version is a quick and effective way to find desired information.

When reading Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) and United States Code (U.S.C.) provisions, the following free resource is highly recommended: h ttps://www.law.cornell.edu/

First Class Readings

Visa substance monograph: introductory chapters discussing general topics, and chapters covering the visas mentioned above. (Chapters 1-8: pp. i - 60)
