Description

Trade remedies are the bread of butter of international trade law, and hence a critical area of study for any aspiring trade lawyer. This course will introduce participants to the three principal types of trade remedies, anti-dumping, countervailing measures and safeguards. The class will explore the role of, and justifications for, trade remedies in the international trading system, the framework set out in the WTO Agreement governing their use, and the dispute settlement jurisprudence regarding them. Because trade remedies are a global phenomenon, the course will examine the trade remedy systems of the United States and other major users around the world, including the EU and India, using specific investigations as a vehicle to help students understand in concrete terms what trade remedy investigations entail.
