Description
Do you wish you had more time to either write a fantastic article or revise an existing one for publication? Are you passionate about women’s rights or LGBTI rights? Do you need a writing sample that demonstrates both your writing skills and highlights your interest in gender and law to potential employers? “Advanced Legal Writing: Gender and Law” is a unique opportunity to improve your writing skills while developing an expertise in an area of law that interests you. In this advanced legal writing seminar, students will write a high-quality paper for submission for publication or for use as a writing sample. While all papers must address the interaction of gender and law, all readings and weekly assignments will focus on the writing process. Students will engage in in-class exercises and weekly assignments to select an interesting and timely topic, develop a strong thesis, structure compelling arguments, write clear and lively prose, and get published. Students may choose from one of the following final assignments: draft a research paper; revise an existing paper or journal note/comment; expand a paper written in conjunction with another course; or draft two or three short (10 page) white-paper style pieces written for a policy audience. Credits are variable, depending on the length of the final project.
