Description

The main goal of this course is for every student, with the advice and support of classmates and the professor, to prepare an excellent (and potentially publishable) paper at least 20 pages long (excluding footnotes) about Food and Drug Law. During the first weeks of the course, we will also examine and debate various advanced issues in Food and Drug Law. Papers may be about any topic related to the field of Food and Drug Law broadly defined (including administrative law issues or product-specific issues concerning food, drugs, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical devices, human biologic products, animal food , animal drugs, or tobacco products). Students will present their works in progress in class and critique each other’s projects. Papers of sufficient length may be used satisfy the upper level writing requirement. Moreover, students may earn an additional independent study credit if they write a paper at least 40 pages long (excluding footnotes). To be eligible for this seminar, students must either have taken Food and Drug Law (the first year elective or the upper-level elective) or receive the permission of the instructor (which will be granted if the student has relevant experience and/or a relevant well-conceived research project).
