Description
This country is currently undergoing a major economic crisis which will have its worst effects on those at the bottom of the economic ladder; unfortunately, the recent election paid almost no attention to these people even though they number in the tens of millions and are increasing all the time. This course consists of discussions led by experts on issues affecting these Americans. We will discuss unemployment and underemployment, homelessness, migrant workers, the public schools, AIDS, as well as tax, health care and other relevant public policies. In addition to the in-class work, students will intern at some of the public policy centers in the DC area working on these problems. The seminar meets Tuesdays at 4 pm.
