Description

"Becoming A Lawyer" This is a 3-credit graded seminar where students working in externship field placements will seek to meet their individualized learning goals, enhance their ability to learn from real world experiences, develop a capacity for self-direction and problem solving, and consider what kind of lawyer they would like to be (i.e., (a) type of institution in which you would like to work ((1)private practice, solo, small firm, large firm; (2) non-profit practice; (3) government practice; (4) in-house counsel; (5) or (6) some form of alternative legal practice); (b) the type of clients for whom you would like to work and (c) the substantive area of law that you wish to pursue). We will work to meet these goals and objectives through weekly class meetings, reading assignments, weekly journal entries, student class presentations, guest lecturers and reflective writing assignments.
