Description

This course is a one-credit pass/fail seminar taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, government agency, court or private law firm handling pro bono matters exclusively. This seminar is taught by a practicing prosecutor and is designed for students who are currently working at a litigation placement, including judicial externs, or for students interested in litigation as a career, including ultimately donning the black robe. Lawyers who litigate (in civil or criminal law) and the judges who referee their disputes face many challenges and reap many rewards unique to litigation. In addition to traditional seminar topics such as networking and interviewing, we will explore those unique challenges and rewards of litigation, discuss litigation strategies inside and outside the courtroom, practice litigation skills, and reflect on life as a litigator, drawing on your externship experiences.
