Description

This is a three-credit class to be taken in conjunction with a field placement in a non-profit organization, government agency, court or private law firm handling pro bono matters exclusively. Your placements offer a unique opportunity to explore with hands-on practice different areas of the law to help you decide if that area is one in which you would like to start your career or if you want to keep looking for an area that is more fulfilling for you. To that end, this seminar will require you to reflect on, and share, the good and the bad about the areas of law in which you are working with the dual aim of guiding your own career path and that of your classmates, many of whom will be working in different areas of law. We will explore what it means to be a professional in the law in a general sense as you begin to transition from law student to lawyer. The seminar will use outside reading and writing in conjunction with in-class presentations and exercises.
