Notices

This class, along with LAW-754-006 [CHANGE TO LAW-754-005 IN THE DESCRIPTION FOR -006], constitutes the field work component of LAW-729-001, Wrongful Convictions. In order to earn two credits for the field work component of the course, please enroll in LAW-754-006 along with this course. You must have already taken Wrongful Convictions, or you must enroll in it simultaneously, to take this class. Class meetings will be scheduled individually on a week-to-week basis. If you enroll in this class, please e-mail the professor, Eily Raman, at ERaman@exonerate.org, the week before classes start, so that you can be placed on a team and we can set up an initial meeting.

Description

Students enrolled in this class will perform factual investigation in the cases of actual prisoners who have contacted the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project claiming to be innocent of the crimes for which they are in prison. Such investigation may involve reading trial transcripts and appellate briefs; meeting with the prisoner; visiting courthouses to review documents; and locating and interviewing witnesses. It is expected that you will devote 5-10 hours per week to this class. Please do not enroll if you are not prepared to make this commitment.
