Must be taken concurrently with LAW-754-005 (Innocence Project Seminar), unless you have taken that seminar or a Wrongful Convictions course in a prior semester. Please e-mail the professor for permission if you meet one of these criteria and would like to enroll in the field work component without the seminar.

Description

During the 2009 spring semester, you will acquire and review trial transcripts and other case materials in order to evaluate the case histories of one or more prisoners. As part of your investigations, you will read appellate briefs, medical reports and other documents and correspond with (and may interview) prisoners, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and expert and lay witnesses. If our investigations reveal a viable claim of innocence, the matter will be referred to an outside cooperating attorney who will undertake representation of the inmate to prosecute the claim of innocence. Whenever possible, you will be assigned to work with the cooperating attorney in prosecution of the prisoner’s claim.
