Description

Higher Education law is a fast-growing and dynamic field of law in a global industry with over 3000 attorneys representing public and private schools in the U.S. This course examines the laws applicable to higher education institutions in the United States and explores important state and federal court decisions as well as trends in the law. The course is designed to acquaint law students with an overview of legal liability in the college and university setting and explores decision making in the higher education environment. Areas examined include: Governance, structure, and history of higher education law; Faculty, administrator, and student rights; Higher education financing, land use, and taxation; Research, contracts, and intellectual property; Athletics, student activities, and services.
