Description

This is a survey course on the law of health care delivery and financing in the United States with a focus on law and policy tools to improve the quality of and access to health care while controlling costs. The course is designed as a gateway to more specialized health law course offerings for students interested in pursuing extensive health law study. Topics include: civil liability of health care providers; regulatory and market-based approaches to improving the quality of health care delivery; legal obligations of individual and institutional health care providers to provide care; the regulation of private health plans to improve access to health care; and Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, coverage, administration, payment, and appeals.
