Meets regularly on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 9:20 pm, from May 26 through July 21. Please note that classes that would ordinarily be held on June 16 and June 23 will instead be held, respectively, on Thursday, June 11, and Thursday, July 9, from 6:30 to 9:20 pm. As an accommodation for any students unable to attend the classes on the changed dates, those classes will be video-recorded.

Description

An examination of the ethical obligations of lawyers, with a primary focus on the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, a version of which has been adopted in most states (all except for California) and Washington, D.C.

Lisa Lerman and Philip Schrag, Ethical Problems in the Practice of Law (Aspen Publ. 3d ed. 2012 ["Casebook"]; Stephen Gillers, Roy Simon, and Andrew Perlman, Regulation of Lawyers: Statutes and Standards Concise Edition 2015 ["Model Rules"]. Please note: It is essential that students use the identified editions of the Casebook and Model Rules, as there have been significant rules changes not reflected in prior editions. With regard to the Model Rules, however, students may use the 2014 edition, as there have been no rule changes since that edition. Used copies of the Casebook may be available, as this edition has been used the last several times the course has been taught. With regard to the Casebook, students may use the "SMARTe Edition."
