Description

Pretrial criminal procedure and constitutional limitations on the use of power under the Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Topics include arrest; search and seizure; police interrogation, confessions, lineups, and other pretrial identification procedures; use of informants; scope and administration of exclusionary rules; and the rights of indigent defendants to counsel, transcript, and other aids.

The required textbook for the course is CRIMINAL PROCEDURE: INVESTIGATION, Chemerinsky & Levenson (3rd ed.) (Aspen) (ISBN 978-1-4548-8299-2) (Please note that there are two versions of the Chemerinsky/Levenson casebook. We will be using the Investigation book. There also exists a large red hardbound book version of the textbook, but you need not buy that book. It is more expensive. If you already have that bigger book, that is fine as it contains the same cases and page numbers.).
