       (1) Prior inconsistent statement by witness. [Changes highlighted][Moved from Current Rule 801(d)(1)(A)] A statement that is inconsistent with the declarant's testimony[, and was given under oath subject to the penalty of perjury at a trial, hearing, or other proceeding, or in a deposition]; provided the proponent has extrinsic evidence of the prior state-ment, and the declarant is confronted with the statement while testifying and afforded an opportunity to explain or deny the same and the opposite party afforded an opportunity to examine the witness thereon; or


       (1) Prior inconsistent statement by witness. [Clean copy] A statement that is inconsistent with the declarant's testimony; provided the proponent has extrinsic evidence of the prior statement, and the declarant is confronted with the statement while testifying and afforded an opportunity to explain or deny the same and the opposite party afforded an opportunity to examine the witness thereon; or
